Giants win. Jets blow it.

I love my New York football teams, yes, BOTH of them (even though they both play in New Jersey), but yesterday's outings were not exactly awe inspiring -- or inspiring a whole lot of confidence that the Giants or Jets will go all the way to Tampa (as in the Super Bowl) this year.

Maybe the Jets should have stuck with those "Titans" uniforms (even if they do look like something designed by the runner-up on "Project Runway"), cause wearing them last week, the Jets looked way more like winners (or more like the real Titans, in Tennessee, who are now 6 - 0) than they did this week. And while I prefer the more masculine/traditional green-and-white Jets uniforms, this week's narrow loss to the Oakland Raiders (the Oakland Raiders!?) in Oakland, 16 - 13 in overtime, just should not have happened.

The Oakland Raiders?! The team sucks, man (though their logo is kinda cool). And this Sunday's matchup was one of the ugliest football games the spouse and I have seen in recent memory, with more penalties than a hockey game. Pathetic. Though kudos to Jets kicker and former NY Giant Jay Feely for kicking the game-tying field goal at the end of the fourth quarter. You rock, man.

Thankfully, well, for us Giants fans, the G-Men, while not looking all that super (despite winning the Super Bowl last season) got the job done, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 29 - 17 at the Meadowlands. And while QB Eli Manning didn't have his best day or game this season, he is currently the Manning with the better record (shocking as that may be, as Peyton Manning and the Colts lost to Green Bay 34 - 14 and dropped to 3 - 3 in the AFC South).

But thanks to the efforts of Brandon Jacobs, Plaxico "Bad Ass" Burress, and Michael Johnson, who twice intercepted the ball for the Giants, the Giants now go to 5 - 1, and remain in first place in the NFC East.

Now us fans will have to wait and see if the Giants can defeat a real team as next week they take on the 5 - 1 Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh.

As for the Jets, if they can't beat Kansas City (1 - 5) at home next week, coach Eric Mangini should start looking for a new gig.

"BOTH New York teams"? Typical NYC-centric remark. There is in fact only one New York team. Yeah, yeah, Scott Norwood, I know.

Go Bills!

Touche, Mr. S. Point taken. Bravo to the Bills, who also won this weekend and are also now 5 - 1. (Is someone itching for a Bills - Giants rematch?)

Play calling in fourth quarter catch up: throw the ball, let Brett work his magic. Play calling in OT: Way too conservative. They gave it away. Although if Baker didn't fall down they are in field goal range. It was an exciting 4th quarter anyway.
Green matches Brett's eyes better.

My favorite Super Bowl ever was Bills vs. Giants. Both my favorite teams. I would love a repeat. This time with the Bills winning!

I would hardly call the home of the Anchor Bar New York any more than East Rutherford, even if technically it resides within the Empire's borders. Maybe part of Ontario? eh? In fact my business crony from Toronto area told me on good authority that the Bill's will soon be playing under the maple leaf. So no dissin on Big Blue or Gang green.

BoW.Not! (may I call you BoW?),

First of all, hilarious nom de blog.

Second, casting aspersions on Buffalo, while fun and, frankly, second nature even to those of us who grew up in Western NY, will draw a response from EMM if you're not careful. Also, though we may talk funny, we talk funny in a different way than the Canucks. I'll give you a saaample when you visit.

Finally, Toronto already has the Argonauts; let Buffalo keep the Bills.

Indy-Anna, while I am a big Brett Favre fan*, he has a way of keeping both teams in the game when he puts the ball up.

*Not least because my daughter pointed to a picture of Brett Favre when she was a toddler and said "Daddy!" Don't think that didn't go into the milestone book.

Oh no he diiiidnt!

Those of us raised above Westchester are well aware that we're New Yorkers and not from "the City".

Canada was useful in college when after the Empire State raised the drinking age to 19 we could cross the border from Buffalo to drink and dance for next to nothing.

I've always thought NY should annex Canada for their oil and be the "largest state in the Union".

Then we could be anchored down at the Anchor Bar and not "anchored down in Anchorage". Wow, who knew Michelle Shocked would be so helpful?

Oh my Gaaaad, I'g going to go have a pop and gyro (pronounced jyro).

Go Bills!!!

Sorry, the big hair got in the way of spelling and content. The fumes from the spiral perm are horrible on the first day!

We went to Canada when the drinking age was raised from 19 to 21 in NY. Nope, no wimpy "grandfathering" for us.

Gotta go tuck my jeans into my big socks.
